Er en datatype på linje med heltal, tekst o.lign.

Defineret i standarden "Simple Feature Specification"

Simple Features (officially Simple Feature Access) is both an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard ISO 19125 that specifies a common storage and access model of mostly two-dimensional geographical data (point, line, polygon, multi-point, multi-line, etc.)

En geometri kan være:

• En "GEOMETRYCOLLECTION" (en samling af hvad som helst)
• Et "POINT"
• Et "MULTIPOINT"
• En "LINESTRING"
• En "MULTILINESTRING"
• En "POLYGON" - NB: Kan have huller
• En "MULTIPOLYGON"

En geometri kan have et defineret koordinatsystem (Normalt i DK SRID: 25832)

En geometri kan være i 2D eller 2½D.

Geometrier kan være ulovlige i nogle systemer og lovlige i andre. PostGIS holder sig strikt til SFS. Det kan give "udfordringer" hvis man modtager data fra andre GIS systemer
